WRITTEN BY: The Bangalow Herald

From 14–16 August, Byron Bay will once again become a hub for readers, writers and big ideas, with the 2026 Byron Writers Festival bringing together acclaimed Australian and international authors for a weekend of conversation, storytelling and inspiration.

This year’s theme, Sanctuary, explores the enduring value of reading, writing and thoughtful discussion in a rapidly changing world.

The program features an impressive line-up including Booker Prize-winning author Richard Flanagan, journalist Antoinette Lattouf, philosopher Roman Krznaric, International Booker Prize-winning novelist Geetanjali Shree, bestselling Australian author Meg Mason and political journalist Amy Remeikis, alongside many more voices from Australia and around the world.

Beyond the author sessions, festival-goers can enjoy live music, markets, great food and Byron Bay’s unique atmosphere, making it one of the region’s most anticipated cultural events.

The festival runs from 14–16 August 2026, with tickets and the full program now available.
